There is no better time of year to enjoy the beauty and warmth that decorating with color brings. The holidays are a perfect excuse to pull out your favorite decorations and add some new ones, too! Today I wanted to share how I styled our cozy colorful Christmas living room! I love neutral pallets, but I always try to do one holiday look with lots of color & this is that look! We spend a lot of time in this room as a family. It’s where we wind down at the end of the day. I’ve been wanting to do something different with this living room and I think it turned out so cute! It’s the perfect place to curl up on the couch and read a book or watch some holiday movies, and of course watch Cope turn it into his own playground. There are so many ways that we use this space, I wanted to ensure it was a bit more whimsical and family friendly… and I think these colors really showcase how we have been using this space this holiday season.

This colorful christmas living room really shows off how I use my all white house as a canvas. We do have sources to all of our items in the space that are not antique or unique. Feel free to jump ahead by click (here). I won’t judge, the stuff just so cute I want it all. Having all white walls and floors really help colorful elements like the reds of christmas or greens of spring, pop! I am not saying that can’t happen in other rooms with different colors, but naturally as white as a canvas this space really make me feel like I’m living in a vintage Christmas painting. This space contrasts our more formal front living room so much. That room is filled with heavy neutrals and a bit more statement antiques, where were festive and protected with a washable rug and slipcover sofa, welcoming the daily messes you may see while sneaking a nightly sweet treat during your favorite Christmas movie.

I love adding colorful touches of red and green for the festive season. While I love my neutral decor, I wanted to switch my decor up for this room and make it super colorful. I’ve been wanting to play around with adding pops of Christmas color in our home for a while, and this space was the perfect place to do that! The room is actually quite dark in the wintertime so I wanted to lighten it up with some colorful accessories.

This entire space really all started with this rug. This is the Dress Stewart Tartan Rug by Ruggable. This is the first huggable I have ever purchased, but after seeing it online for so long I wanted to give it a try. I will do an entire review once I use it and wash it, but let me tell you my initial thoughts. If you don’t know you lay a black fabric down first and then the top layer goes on top of that. The layer adds the thickness and padding you would expect from a nice rug, while also keeping the top layer in place. The top layer is removable and washable, and when the season ends, you get your next seasonal rug top and fold up this one and tuck away into storage without having a roll of rug taking up too much space in your spare room or basement. So far I am very happy, it was very easy to lay, and its stayed in place without any issue at all. I am very excited to wash it and see how that goes, so stay tuned.

From there I brought the eye up with another Stewart Plaid element, the Stewart Plaid Throw from Pottery Barn. More sources from items in this room are below, click (here) to jump down.

I love adding different textures into my decor as well. By adding pops of red where ever I could including the pillows, candles, and tabletop trees really brought this space to life. It’s all about that pop of holiday color! I purchased a new IKEA Farlov sofa and chairs for the room as I needed something that was durable for Copeland, but also great for gathering. I turned to my favorite resource for IKEA slipcovers, Bemz, to help cover these pieces is washable linens. If you would like to read more about Bemz, click here [HERE].

It’s so easy to switch up your decor for the holidays, and I’m sure everyone has a space in their home that could use some festive color! That’s all it takes to have a cozy colorful Christmas back living room. It makes me so happy to design my home in ways that reflect my own personal style. While I love to stick to neutral colors, it’s fun to switch it up a bit for Christmas. There are no limits or boundaries you can set for yourself when creating your perfect space–there is only creativity!
